Build an automatic curation collection

This section explains the nomenclature and the steps to build an automatic curation collection.

Nomenclature

Asset orderThis defines whether the media available in the collection will be played in a sequence or random order during playout.

  1. Sequence - Choose this option if you want the selected media to be played in a sequence (same asset order available in the collection) during playout.

  2. Shuffle - Choose this option if you want the selected media to be played randomly during playout.

Asset Pinning If you want one or more specific asset(s) in the collection to be consistently played at fixed positions during program scheduling, you can pin the assets.

During pinning, you can set the asset position to:

  • Top of the program

  • Bottom of the program

  • Customized position that can be at the top, bottom, or any other position per your requirement

Note: Pinned assets will appear in all the programs created out of this collection.

Steps to build an automatic curation collection

To build an automatic curation collection, follow the below steps:

  1. Ensure that the Media tab is currently selected in the CONTENT MANAGER pane.

  2. Press Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac), and select the required assets from the content manager using which you want to build the master collection.

  3. Click NEW COLLECTION to build a new master collection.

  1. In the New Collection window, keep the collection type as Automatic curation (selected by default).

  2. Type the name of the collection, and select the required tags.

In the Assets tab, you can view all the assets that are grouped together for building the master collection.

Note: You can add more assets to the master collection, delete the unwanted assets, and change the asset order per your requirement. Check out this section for details.

  1. Optional step: Move to the Metadata tab and provide the required metadata. If you don’t have the details handy right now, you can provide them later during program scheduling.

  2. In the Rules tab, define asset order and pin rule.

  3. Click CREATE COLLECTION.

A success toast message appears on the bottom-right corner of the PLANNER application.

The newly built automatic curation collection will be listed as the first item in the Collection tab, labeled MASTER, as depicted.

Add/Delete/Change asset order in the collection

To add more assets to a collection:

  • Select the required assets from the CONTENT MANAGER pane, and drag them to the box labeled Drag & drop media in the Assets tab.

To delete an unwanted asset from the collection:

  • Click the Delete icon located on the right side of the asset.

To change the order of assets in the collection:

  • Drag the required asset upwards or downwards.

Pin assets to specific locations

To pin an asset to a specific location while building the collection, follow the below steps:

  1. Click ADD PIN.

  2. From the content manager pane, locate the asset you want to pin, and drag it to the box labeled Drag & drop assets from the Content Manager.

  3. Choose the position where you want to pin the asset.

Note: You can pin only one asset at a time.

Later, when you schedule a program using this collection, the pinned assets retain their position irrespective of the asset order (sequence/shuffle) chosen while building the master collection. For example, consider that a bumper is pinned at the top and a commercial at the bottom of the master collection. When a program is scheduled using this collection, the program always starts with a bumper and ends with a commercial. All other assets in the program will be arranged in the asset order chosen during program scheduling.

Build an editorial curation collection

To build an editorial curation master collection, follow the below steps:

  1. In the New Collection window, select the Collection Type as Editorial curation.

  2. In the Change Collection Type pop up, click OK.

  3. Type the name of the collection, and select the required tags.

In the Assets tab, you can view all the assets that are grouped together for building the master collection.

Note: You can add more assets to the master collection, delete the unwanted assets, and change the asset order per your requirements.  Check out this section for details.

By default, the segments of all the assets chosen for building the master collection will be displayed below the Assets tab, along with empty ad breaks that need to be filled. However, the empty ad break will not be automatically inserted for assets having only one segment. To insert ad breaks for assets having only one segment or to insert additional breaks above or below an asset, follow the steps outlined in this section.

  1. Fill in the break by following the below steps:

    • From the CONTENT MANAGER pane, select one or multiple ad media corresponding to the ad slate per your need.

    • Drag the ad media to the box labeled Break <n>, where n is the break number. For example, the break number can be Break 1, Break 2, Break 3, etc.

Note: You are not allowed to drop the ad media having multiple segments.

  1. Move to the Metadata tab and provide details such as the collection name (mandatory), genre, descriptions, rating, etc.

  2. Click CREATE COLLECTION.

A success toast message appears on the bottom-right corner of the PLANNER application.

The newly built automatic curation collection will be listed as the first item in the Collection tab, labeled NONEPISODIC, as depicted.

Manually insert ad breaks in the editorial curation collection

In an editorial curated collection, an asset is broken down to show the segments and break structure. This helps to quickly insert ad media from the content manager to the existing breaks via a simple drag and drop. If you wish to add more breaks over and above the existing breaks, you can add them before or after the asset.

Note: Segment level breaks cannot be added or deleted.

To manually insert a new ad break in the asset, follow the below steps:

  1. Click ADD BREAK available on the top-right corner of the first asset segment.

  2. In the pop up, select the position where you wish to add the ad break.

  • To insert the ad break above the asset, choose Above the asset option.

Once done, a new ad break container will be inserted just above the asset, as depicted.

  • To insert the ad break below the asset, choose Below the asset option.

Once done, an ad break container will be added just below the last asset segment, as depicted.
